Skinhead Clothing

Skinhead style started in the late sixties with working class kids in Britain who took the mod look, stripped the flash out of it and set it to a Jamaican soundtrack. Trojan on the record player, Sta Press with a crease you could cut bread on, and boots polished within an inch of their life. It was smart, it was cheap, and it was built to last a Saturday night.

Everything in here is the real thing. Sta Press trousers, turn up jeans, button down shirts from Ben Sherman and Relco, braces in every width, Harrington jackets, MA 1 bombers, monkey boots, loafers and brogues. Add a tank top and a pair of tartan socks and the whole thing is sorted.

The rule was always the same. Nothing baggy, nothing scruffy, everything pressed. A button down buttoned right to the collar, trousers cut short enough to show the boot, and a jacket that fits across the shoulders rather than hanging off them. Get those three right and the rest looks after itself.

The look never really went away. It came back with 2 Tone at the end of the seventies, checkerboard everywhere and tonic suits on Top of the Pops, and it has been going ever since. Plenty of what you see here is worn by mods, rude boys and Northern Soul dancers just as often.
